Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Hon. Amos Makalla urged Mbeya Region Roads Agency and all District Leaders to ensure that they made a conscious effort to protect the road reserve and not allow citizens to humanitarian activities in the park.
Hon. Makalla made the remarks at the opening session of the Regional Road Board to discuss the implementation of road works in the financial year 2016/2017 to the District Councils and Mbeya City Council.
Speaking at the meeting the Hon Regional Commissioner has said that there has been a problem of people invaded the protected area of the road to the plow, do business and create at law prohibits conduct such activities within the road reserve, which is 30 meters from the center of the road on each side.
Rungwe District Commissioner Hon. Chalya Nyangindu said that they have begun educating the public about the conservation of the road and some citizens have started to remove buildings and their products voluntarily.
Hon. Nyangindu has asked the National Roads Agency (TANROADS) look likely to regard Rungwe different from other places to drop some areas continue to use the old rules of 22.5 meter due to the geography of these areas.
Acting Manager of TANROADS Engineer Suleiman Luwena has said that they have already started putting posters and advised not to do business storage areas of the road in the Ushirika and Kiwira Wards but citizens have defied by requesting cooperation from the Governing Council and Rungwe.
